Interview with
InternetBasedMoms.com Owner Alice Seba
by Shannan Hearne
http://www.SuccessPromotions.com
SHANNAN: Why did you decide to be a WAHM?
ALICE: I am still in the process as I
currently
am working out of the home until the birth
of my second child. I have always
wanted to have my own business, but most
self-employed people I know spend
more time in their offices or at their
stores than they do at home. Working
at home with my children is ideal. I get to
spend as much or as little time
on the business as I'd like and I get to be
close to my children. I want to
be there when they need me and when they
reach important milestones.
SHANNAN: How do you measure success in your
life and business?
ALICE: A happy and harmonious home. I might
be doing well with my
business, but if I'm spending too much time
on it, my home life will suffer.
Conversely, if I'm not working on my
business and am letting it slide,
I am not happy - which makes my family
suffer. Ultimately, it is about
balancing both those things that illustrates
success. Money is nice, but it
isn't the most important thing.
SHANNAN: What is your primary and secondary
online businesses?
ALICE: My primary business is
InternetBasedMoms, which is an
online resource center for work at home
moms. I provide tips and resources
for choosing an online business, building a
web page, achieving good search
engines rankings and promoting online. A
spinoff of this business is
WAHMcopywriter. I love to write so I
offer my writing services to
home based businesses. This site also
contains a large selection of my
articles that my visitors are free to use
for their own newsletters and web
pages.
SHANNAN: How has the internet changed your
life?
ALICE: Oh my goodness. That's a hard
question. I've been using the Internet
since the early 90s. My husband is a big
techy, so I really had no choice.
Today,
I use the Internet every single day for
personal use and for business use. I
use
the Internet before I use a phone book or
look in a newspaper. As far as my
businesses are concerned, they wouldn't
exist without the Internet. I wanted
to
create a business that really enabled me to
stay home with my children - the
Internet
has allowed me to do this.
SHANNAN: What do you feel that the internet
brings to the lives of women?
ALICE: A ton of information - but you just
have to be careful and do your
research. A sense of community. For women in
business, it has brought vast
world of possibilities.
SHANNAN: What is the mission statement of
InternetBasedMoms?
ALICE: I guess it's more of a motto, but I
also consider it to be a mission
statement and that's "Let's work
together so we can achieve what our
children
need...a parent at home." I provide
these resources because I want moms to
achieve their goal of staying home with
their children. I constantly
encourage
other moms to support each others
businesses. I do this through the "Shop
with
Moms" section; each newsletter talks
about the importance of supporting one
another; and I have just created a
"Christmas Swap" forum on my
message
boards. This forum allows moms to share
their Christmas shopping lists and
offer their items for sale. Many of our WAHM
businesses wouldn't exist
without the support of other WAHMs - I know
mine wouldn't. If we can
purchase something we need from another WAHM,
we are doing the whole WAHM
community a tremendous service.
SHANNAN: What was your background that
brought you to starting and running
InternetBasedMoms?
ALICE: I have a History degree that in
itself isn't very useful, but it has
taught me
the tremendous skill of research. I love to
learn and investigate
information. I have
always loved writing and have done it some
form or another throughout my
career.
Now, I'm writing for myself and about the
things I want to write about - I
love it!
The world of the Internet and Marketing is
fascinating to me. I am not a
very
technically-minded person and I think that
is part of the reason why I
started the site. I wanted to show other
moms that you don't have to be a
graphic artist or computer programmer to run
a successful online business.
SHANNAN: What kind of family support do you
have?
ALICE: My husband is very supportive and
proud of the success my business
has achieved. He is also my "technical
support" - he is a computer whiz and
helps me with all my software and hardware
difficulties! My son is 14 months
and as long as he gets lots of attention and
play time, he's happy. We are
also
expecting another baby in April and he/she
hasn't made any complaints about
the
business either. :)
SHANNAN: I'd like to congratulation Alice on
her success, her pregnancy,
and her fantastic contribution to the
women's community online.
